In the battle of the sequels, "Shrek" trumped "Sex" over the weekend, as "Shrek Forever After" in its second week overshadowed the debut of "Sex and the City 2." Both films did poorly compared to their respective franchises' previous efforts. Ticket sales in general were weak for a Memorial Day weekend.

Here are the top movie ticket sales Friday through Sunday, with estimated weekend receipts, and total receipts since the movie opened. The number of weeks opened is in parentheses.
