The White House on Tuesday threatened to veto legislation that would block the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act.

The proposal by Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), which is expected to come to a vote Thursday, would disrupt the EPA's ability to curtail greenhouse gas pollution, the White House said.

The agency is moving ahead with rules to regulate emissions from coal-fired utilities and other major emitters and has enacted such standards for vehicles.
