Metro, union, families plan ceremonies to remember Red Line crash victims

Metro, the union representing most Metro workers, and families of the victims of the June 22, 2009, Red Line crash will hold memorial ceremonies Tuesday.

Metro's ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. next to the Fort Totten Station. Metro plans to invite relatives to unveil a memorial plaque and lay a wreath to honor the nine people who died in the crash, the survivors and the emergency crews that responded to the accident.

Metro is also asking people throughout the region to observe a moment of silence at 10:30 a.m.

Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689 will have a vigil from 6 to 8 p.m. at its headquarters, 2701 Whitney Pl., Forestville.

The family of Veronica DuBose, a 29-year-old mother who died in the crash, has organized a public ceremony for 6 p.m. on the bridge on New Hampshire Avenue NE that overlooks the accident site.
