Lindsey R. Harmon Psychologist

Lindsey Richard Harmon, 96, a research director at the National Research Council from 1952 until his retirement in 1979, died June 7 at the Goodwin House in Falls Church of respiratory failure.

A native of Spokane, Wash., he received a bachelor's degree in 1935, a master's degree in 1937 and a doctorate in 1952, all in psychology from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

During the early 1950s he was a research psychologist with the Army Department.

An Arlington resident since the early 1950s, he was a member of Arlingtonians for a Better County, a nonpartisan political organization that fought for better schools and supported racial integration. He was active in the Arlington County Parent Teacher Association and was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, where he taught Sunday school from the 1950s through the 1970s.

He wrote short essays and poetry, which were collected in a self-published book "The Wit and Wisdom of Lindsey Harmon."

His first marriage, to Janet Burwell Harmon, ended in divorce. His second wife, Eloise Goode Harmon, died in 2006 after 37 years of marriage. A son from his first marriage, William R. Harmon, died in 1978.

Survivors include three children from his first marriage, Bruce H. Harmon and Douglas L. Harmon, both of Arlington, and Joan H. Evans of Terra Alta, W.Va.; three stepchildren, Scott Wilner of Richmond, Wendy Hale of Arlington and Heidi Leese of Canton, Ill.; a sister; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Nadeen N. Hendricks Accountant

Nadeen N. Hendricks, 70, who worked as an accountant in Takoma Park from 1986 to 1996, died June 4 at Georgetown University Hospital. She had respiratory failure.

Mrs. Hendricks, a Silver Spring resident, was an accountant at Takoma Academy, a high school in Takoma Park. She was a longtime member of Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church in Takoma Park, where she volunteered with children's programs.

Nadeen Novella Nichols, a native of Lewiston, Idaho, was a 1961 business graduate of Union College in Lincoln, Neb. She moved to the Washington area in the early 1970s.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Audley Hendricks of Silver Spring; two daughters, Cara Olsen of Silver Spring and Cheryl Middleton of Southborough, Mass.; and two grandchildren.
