Kristin Franke, 28, is a manager at the Association of American Medical Colleges. Carl Monaco, 30, is a director at Corporate Executive Board. They live in Northwest Washington.

Wedding date: May 30.

Location: Renaissance Mayflower Hotel, Northwest Washington.

Guests: 120.

How they met: Kristin was transferred to the same department as Carl in 2007. In 2008, as the two were waiting for a conference call, they discovered they had a lot in common. Though they were seeing other people at the time, they traded e-mails, trying to wow each other, Kristin says. Six months after that first real conversation, Kristin revealed to a colleague that she liked Carl. This colleague was a good friend of Carl's, and she gave him a heads-up. Soon after, he asked if Kristin wanted to go to happy hour.

The proposal: Last July, to make up for taking Kristin to a horrible flick, Carl said he would get her ice cream. It was a hot day, so he wanted to change clothes at home before they went (he also needed to get the ring). He then re-created the date where they first kissed; they got ice cream, sat outside the Adams Morgan tennis courts and, this time, Carl popped the question.

The wedding: A string quartet played '80s tunes during the ceremony, including Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," to which Kristin walked down the aisle. Carl's uncle belted out "Livin' on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi during the reception. And Kristin gave Carl a red velvet groom's cake decorated with a Mets theme.

Honeymoon: Oahu and Maui, Hawaii.
