In a fight -- and the Fix has been in lots of them (not) -- it's usually advisable to pick one guy to face off against. When you are getting punched from more than one direction, chances are you are going to lose.

Just ask John Boehner, the tan man who serves as the House minority leader. Early in the week, in an interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Boehner said President Obama's Wall Street reform plan amounts to "killing an ant with a nuclear weapon."

Cue the Democratic outrage machine. The Democratic National Committee released a Web video that juxtaposed images of ants with dire pronouncements from television commentators and lawmakers about the seriousness of the situation. Obama even saw fit to mention Boehner's "ant" comment during an appearance in Wisconsin on Wednesday, urging the Ohio Republican to "come here to Racine and ask people if they think the financial crisis was an ant."

Boehner punched back aggressively at the White House, insisting that Democrats were making a mountain out of a molehill (make that an anthill) in an attempt to distract an unhappy public.

Then, just as Boehner was battling the Democrats, he was gut-punched by some of his own teammates. Joe Scarborough, a former Republican House member from Florida, said on his MSNBC morning chat show that Boehner is "not a hard worker." Ouch. Next came a Politico story that detailed tensions between Boehner and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (Va.) over GOP strategy heading into the November midterm elections.

John Boehner, for getting into a fight with multiple opponents (heck, even Andre the Giant couldn't win that kind of brawl), you had the Worst Week in Washington. Congrats, or something.
