With the federal government poised to fill 50,000 entry-level positions and 60,000 paid internships during the next year, about 8,000 job seekers flocked to the National Building Museum Wednesday for a job fair.
It was the eighth annual fair sponsored by the nonprofit Partnership for Public Service, and officials with the group said it was its largest crowd. The emphasis this year was on entry-level positions, organizers said. Recruiters from 80 federal agencies, including the State Department and the National Institutes of Health, set up booths to advertise positions including accountants and investigators.
Résumés in hand and wearing suits and ties and heels, prospective employees shook hands and tried to sell themselves.
