Free colonoscopies are available for some D.C. residents
Uninsured and underinsured District residents between ages 50 and 64 can be screened for colorectal cancer with a free colonoscopy at Howard University Hospital through May 2011. The survival rate for colorectal cancer is 90 percent when the disease is detected early. The Howard program is funded by grants from the D.C. Department of Health and the D.C. Cancer Consortium.
