Summer trips to the shore probably mean that local pizza, beach fries and ice cream are in order. Prevent some of the post-vacation guilt and get off your beach chair with the Junction and Breakwater bike trail, a 10-mile round trip between Rehoboth Beach and Lewes. It's the perfect opportunity to burn calories and see Delaware beyond Route 50 and the shoreline, all while making for a nice day trip.

The trail weaves through fields, salt marshes and neighborhoods as it brings you between the end of Rehoboth Avenue and Kings Highway in Lewes. Take off on a rental bike from one of the local shops in the morning, park it for a picnic lunch and explore before pedaling back. Catch the relatively flat trail from Hebron Road or behind the Seaside outlets in Rehoboth or from Kings Highway in Lewes.

For more information, call the Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation at 302-739-9220. To download a trail map, visit http://www.destateparks.com/downloads/trails/j-and-b-trail.pdf.
