A timeline of break-ins, assaults leading to the charges
December 23-25, 2007: A home in the 1700 block of Albert Drive in Mitchellville is burglarized. Jason Thomas Scott is charged after police say they connected him to the crime through a stolen handgun.
Spring 2008: Scott receives an undergraduate degree in information systems management from University of Maryland University College.
June 5, 2008: A home in the 11400 block of West Branch Drive in the Kettering area is burglarized. Scott is charged after police say they connected him to the crime through a Dell computer tower.
June 24, 2008: Vilma Butler is found in her home in Bowie. She apparently was shot before the house was set on fire. Police now say they suspect that Scott was her killer.
Oct. 4, 2008: Scott and Marcus Hunter invade a home in the 2100 block of Medinah Ridge Road in Accokeek, court records say. They flee when the homeowner disarms one of them.
Jan. 26, 2009: Karen Lofton, 45, and her 16-year-old daughter, Karissa, are found shot in their locked home in the 10800 block of Southall Drive in the Largo area.
March 14, 2009: Scott and Hunter apparently invade a home in the 1200 block of Pickering Circle in the Largo area, court records show. They take a woman's 2002 Cadillac SLS.
March 16, 2009: The bodies of Delores Dewitt, 42, and her 20-year-old daughter, Ebony, are found in Largo in a burning car in the 11100 block of Webbwood Court that had been stolen that day. They lived in the 9700 block of Cedarhollow Lane in Largo.
May 1-3, 2009: A home in the 14200 block of Dunwood Valley Drive in Bowie is burglarized. Scott is charged after police say they connected him to the crime through a stolen Xbox and spare keys to a BMW.
May 15-17, 2009: A home in the 3100 block of Aventine Lane in Bowie is burglarized. Scott is charged after police say they connected him to the crime with stolen computer equipment.
May 24, 2009: Two vehicles on Peach Street in Bowie are broken into. Scott is charged after police say they connected him to the crimes through stolen camera lenses.
May 26, 2009: J.C. Arms in Woodbine is burglarized.
June 4, 2009: A resident approaches authorities to report that Scott and Hunter are selling guns in the Landover area, according to court records. ATF investigates.
June 13, 2009: Scott allegedly invades a home in the 1800 block of Folk Drive in Fort Washington. He forces one woman in the house to strip and put a pillowcase over her head, and he sexually assaults her and takes pictures, according to police charging documents.
June 17, 2009: A confidential informant buys four guns from Scott for $3,000, court records show. Three are weapons that were stolen from the Woodbine gun shop.
July 1, 2009: ATF agents execute a search warrant at 601 Pritchard Lane, where Scott lives with his parents, and on his 2002 Toyota Camry, according to court records. They find evidence that they say connects him to multiple burglaries, home invasions and the sale of stolen guns. He is arrested, and federal charges are filed.
July 6, 2009: Scott is ordered released on $42,000 unsecured bond and ordered to submit to electronic monitoring.
Early September 2009: Scott is taken into custody after he is charged with a series of break-ins and home invasions. He does not leave jail after this, as federal and local authorities pursue legal strategies to keep him behind bars.
July 27: Scott is charged in the Dewitt killings.
