The county will charge Medicaid, Medicare and insurance companies but not individuals. Tax revenue will cover anything not paid by a resident's insurance, and fees for the uninsured will be waived. The ambulance fees, which will be reviewed annually, will be $400 for basic life support and $500 to $700 for advanced life support services. A fee of $10 per loaded mile will also be added.

The fees are expected to generate $3.1 million in the first year and $18 million within the next fives year, county officials said. McGee said several nearby jurisdictions, including Manassas, Manassas Park, Fairfax County, Arlington County and Alexandria, have similar fees.
