Summer of KidsPost: Readers take us to Hawaii and underwater!

Monday, August 2, 2010

We've received pictures of dogs and cats reading KidsPost and we've received pictures of kid s reading KidsPost under water, but this is a first: Leeroy, a gray snapper, reading KidsPost underwater! Okay, so he may not be reading KidsPost, but it sure looks like he's checking it out as he swims by sisters Julia, 7, and Jessica Modell, 6, from Washington. The two girls are pictured in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Bermuda about 10 feet underwater. They are wearing what are called "Hartley's helmets," which, according to the Modells, look like something astronauts might have worn a long time ago. The helmets allowed the girls to breathe underwater.

Because Conrad Grissett from Columbia got all A's and B's on his report card last year, his grandmother treated him to a Hawaiian vacation! He saw President Barack Obama's birthplace, the Dole factory and Pearl Harbor. It was "awesome," Conrad said, "because I was able to see the historical places and volcanic features we have studied in class."
