Stray Shih Tzus

CLINTON, Plata St., 5000 block, July 20. An animal control officer picked up two 2-year-old Shih Tzus, a cream-colored male and a tan female. Both wore multicolor nylon collars and tags. The dogs were reunited with their owner July 23.

Beagle unbound

CLINTON, Woodyard Rd., 8600 block, July 20. An animal control officer picked up a 7-year-old tricolor female beagle wearing a multicolor nylon collar. The dog was claimed by its owner the next day.

A visitor at town hall

BRENTWOOD, 39th Pl., 4300 block, July 20. A code enforcement officer reported holding a stray dog at Brentwood Town Hall. An animal control officer picked up a 4-month-old red female Labrador retriever with a red nylon collar but no tags. When not claimed, the puppy was transferred to a rescue group July 25.

Dog with a death wish

CHELTENHAM, Farrar Ave., 10500 block, July 20. A woman called animal management to report that a dog had run in front of her car as she was driving along Frank Tippett Road. She had tethered the dog to a mailbox. An officer picked up a 12-year-old buff-colored male cocker spaniel wearing a light-blue nylon collar with tags. The tags were traced, and the dog was reunited with its owner the next day.

Masked intruders in the ducts

COLLEGE PARK, Quebec St., 5700 block, July 21. A resident reported a raccoon stuck between the ductwork in a house. The caller had freed a baby raccoon from the duct. An officer removed an injured brown female raccoon and transferred it to a wildlife rehabilitator for treatment.

Lhasa apso at large

LAUREL, Old Stagecoach Rd., 13000 block, July 25. An animal control officer picked up an 8-year-old cream-colored male Lhasa apso that was found running loose in an apartment complex. The dog was wearing a black nylon collar and was claimed July 26.

Calverton pet adoption event

The Prince George's County SPCA/Humane Society is sponsoring cat and dog adoptions from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at PetSmart, 12020 Cherry Hill Rd., Calverton. The pets' foster owners will answer questions and accept adoption applications for the animals. Adoption fees are $75 for cats, $180 for dogs. For information, call 301-262-5625 or visit
