'Dragon' lady picked
Actress Rooney Mara has been cast in a hotly anticipated Hollywood role: the title character of the hit 2009 crime novel "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," by the late Stieg Larsson.
Mara will play a standoffish yet cerebral computer hacker who assists financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist, played by Daniel Craig. Mara and the film's director, David Fincher, worked together on the upcoming movie "The Social Network," about the rise of Facebook.
Mel's latest run-in
Mel Gibson's worst summer ever continues. On Sunday evening the actor, driving alone, veered off the road and crashed his 2008 Maserati into a hillside on Malibu Canyon Road, People reports. "There were no objective symptoms of intoxication, any level of impairment, and we've ruled out speeding as well based on the damage to the car, which was moderate," said Leland Tang, a spokesmen for the California Highway Patrol. According to a rep, Gibson suffered no injuries.
Actor Michael Douglas will undergo eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy after doctors discovered a tumor in his throat, People magazine reports. No word yet whether the tumor is benign or malignant, but doctors have said he should make a full recovery.
"I am optimistic," Douglas said in a statement to People.
"Jersey Shore" cast member Ronald "Ronnie" Ortiz-Magro was arrested Sunday for outstanding warrants on parking tickets in two New Jersey towns, the Star-Ledger of Newark reports. Ortiz-Magro, 24, settled the conditions of the warrants and was released. Last September, Ortiz-Magro was arrested following a fight outside a club at Seaside Heights, N.J.
Two weeks ago, police arrested fellow cast member Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi for disorderly conduct.
