The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers these tips:

-- Always refrigerate eggs.

-- Throw away cracked and dirty eggs.

-- Wash hands and surfaces with soap after contact with raw eggs.

-- Cook thoroughly until both the white and the yolk are firm.

-- Avoid eating raw eggs.
