Evidently Amal Jadou was not living on Earth in 1967 if he believes that Israel was responsible for starting the Six-Day War [letters, Aug. 24].

In May 1967, Egypt ordered the removal of the U.N. Emergency Force from its Israeli border, which had been in place since 1957 to preserve the peace. Egypt also blockaded the Straits of Tiran, preventing shipping from reaching the Israeli port of Eilat. This unilateral, illegal action was considered an act of war and resulted in Israel's defensive attack against Egypt to reopen this international waterway.

As a result, four Arab countries were defeated in six days and lost territory to Israel.
