Dr. Gridlock: How to get around town this weekend

The Capital Weather Gang predicts we'll have generally pleasant weather this weekend, which just may help make up for the problems you may encounter roaming the region. Whether you're on the streets of the District or the suburbs, or riding beneath it all on Metrorail, you may run into delays that interfere with your travels.

And if you're headed out of downtown tonight, keep in mind that work on U.S. 50 eastbound from the Capital Beltway to the Anne Arundel line begins at 9 p.m. That backup may become a nightmare. Leave early enough so you don't get caught in it.

Here's a roundup of what's happening this weekend:

Restoring Honor Rally

This rally at the Lincoln Memorial headlined by Glenn Beck is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Saturday and to end by 1 p.m. D.C. police say the following roads will close from 8 a.m. to about 3 p.m.

-- 17th Street between Constitution Avenue and Independence Avenue SW.

-- Henry Beacon Drive NW

-- Daniel French Drive SW (beginning at 6 a.m.)

-- 23rd Street SW

-- Westbound Independence Avenue between 17th Street and 23rd Street SW

-- Maine Avenue split to westbound Independence Avenue (all traffic north to 15th Street)

Police say there may be other closures in the area, too, so don't be surprised if this affects roads that aren't on the list.
