Lesson plan insults trouble for teacher

A history class in Prince George's County got an unexpected lesson this week.

A parent said that her son's eighth-grade class at Drew Freeman Middle School in Suitland was asked to define such words as "bastard," "wuss" and other commonly used derogatory terms.

The school's principal, Marla M. Dean, sent a letter home to parents Wednesday explaining that the teacher was using a Web site called Teaching Tolerance to address the use of inappropriate language in school.

Dean said that "appropriate administrative action has been taken," though she did not explain what that was.

Guilty plea in assaults

A Bladensburg man pleaded guilty in D.C. Superior Court on Friday to charges of sexually assaulting four women he met through their Craigslist postings.

Edgar D. Romero, 24, also pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse while armed, one count of first-degree burglary and one count of robbery while armed involving the women, whom he met in the "erotic services" section of the Web site between Dec. 12, 2008, and Feb. 20, 2009.
