Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.

Age: 52

Residence: Annapolis.

Education: BA, politics, Princeton University; JD, Wake Forest University.

Occupation: Lawyer, partner, Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice (on leave).

Elected offices/civic activities: Member, Maryland House of Delegates, 1987-95; member, U.S. House of Representatives, 1995-03; governor of Maryland, 2003-07.

What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

"Nearly 3,000 small businesses closed in Maryland last year. Unemployment doubled from 2006 to 2010. My first priority is to strengthen Maryland's economy and help the private sector create jobs. To reach that goal, I will treat small-business owners as a source of new jobs -- not a source of new tax revenue like the current administration has the past four years."

Why should voters elect you?

"I will have three simple goals as governor: more jobs, lower taxes, less spending."
