Sometimes, you want to see art that doesn't fit any pigeonhole you know. I don't know anything about journalist-
draftsmen during the Civil War, and I don't know where they stood, or stand, as makers of fine art. A show of drawings done for the now-defunct Illustrated Weekly, opening at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts on Jan. 15, should help sort the matter out. Or better yet, it might keep the questions flying. -- Blake Gopnik
