Georgetown Prep has hired Herb Krusen as its new basketball coach.

A former All-Met guard who graduated from Northwood High in 1976, Krusen played played at East Carolina University and then spent 17 seasons coaching college basketball, including one as a head coach, guiding Western Carolina to an 8-19 record in 1987-88.

Krusen replaces Dwayne Bryant, who resigned to become athletic director at Stone Ridge.

Krusen had most recently been coaching with the Maryland Flames club team. His daughter, Nicole, graduated from Georgetown Visitation this past year and is now a freshman at Loyola (Md.).

"I love the game," Krusen said. "I just love working with kids."

While the Little Hoyas will be a significantly different team this season after All-Met guard Markel Starks graduated and moved on to Georgetown, Krusen will have at least one Division I player to work with. Forward Taylor Abt, a 6-foor-8 senior, earlier this week verbally committed to play for Holy Cross.
