ALEXANDRIA, North Patrick and Wythe streets, Sept. 10. Responding to a call, an animal control officer talked to a woman at a gas station who said that while she was pumping gas, she heard "meows" coming from a parked gasoline tanker. She asked the truck driver whether he had a cat in his truck, and he said he did not.

The woman and another customer opened the truck's hood and found a kitten huddled on the engine. The customer removed it and held it until an officer arrived. The uninjured kitten, which did not have identification tags, was to be made available for adoption if no one claimed it.
