A 1-year-old was critically hurt Monday in a single-vehicle crash in Brandywine that sent a total of five people to hospitals, Prince George's County officials said.

The crash occurred about 4 p.m. in the 6600 block of Floral Park Road, said Cpl. Henry Tippett, a police spokesman. He said five people - two adults and three children - were traveling in a two-door Ford Probe that apparently left the road and struck a tree or other object.

The adults and two of the children, thought to be about 9 or 10, were taken to hospitals in stable condition, he said. The 1-year-old, who was unresponsive at the scene, was flown to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, he said.

It was unclear why the car left the road, Tippett said. The police department's collision reconstructionists were called to the scene.
