Stray Presa Canario puppy
LANHAM, Piedmont Ave., 7900 block, Sept. 12. A woman reported a brown pit bull-type puppy on her front porch. An officer picked up a gray male Presa Canario mix with no tags or identification. When not claimed, the 2-month-old puppy was taken to a rescue group.
Kitten gone wild
LANHAM, McHenry Lane, 8800 block, Sept. 12. A woman reported that a kitten on her porch was scratching at the door, jumping and attempting to bite anyone entering or leaving the home. An animal control officer removed a brown tiger-striped female domestic shorthair. When not claimed, the kitten was transferred to a rescue group.
Shih Tzu injured by car
BLADENSBURG, 46th St., 4300 block, Sept. 13. Someone reported having an injured stray dog that had been hit by a car and could barely move. An animal control officer picked up a 2-year-old white male Shih Tzu and took it to an animal hospital, where it was treated for injuries, particularly to its right eye. The dog was released from the hospital and taken to a rescue group Sept. 21.
Fox caught in trap
UPPER MARLBORO, Fendall Ct., 13500 block, Sept. 15. An animal control officer removed a healthy female silver fox from a trap and returned it to the wild.
Dog stuck in screen
RIVERDALE AREA, Riverdale Rd., 6300 block, Sept. 15. An officer removed a stray black female Shih Tzu from a screen on a residence's front porch. The dog's owner was located, and the two were reunited Sept. 17.
Not a dust cloth in utility closet
HYATTSVILLE, Jefferson St., 4200 block, Sept. 15. A resident reported finding a baby squirrel in his utility closet. An officer picked up the squirrel and took it to a wildlife rehabilitator.
Pet adoption event
The Prince George's County SPCA/Humane Society is sponsoring cat and dog adoptions from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at PetSmart, 12020 Cherry Hill Rd., Calverton. The pets' foster owners will answer questions and accept adoption applications for the animals. Adoption fees are $75 for cats, $180 for dogs. For information, call 301-262-5625 or visit http:/
