Wedding date: Aug. 21

Location: Woodrow Wilson House

Guests: 150

How they met: The two were introduced at a party over Memorial Day weekend in 2005. By the end of the night, Roby had scored Chris's phone number.

The proposal: On the day the D.C. Council voted to legalize same-sex marriage, Roby was preparing to report on the celebrations for Fox 5's 10 p.m. newscast when Chris showed up to the party. A half-hour before the newscast went live, the not-typically-spontaneous Chris grew inspired by the day's events and popped the question in front of the crew. Roby's response? "No, not now!" But he quickly followed up with a yes.

The wedding: Roby and Chris walked down an aisle flanked by nieces and nephews singing "Over the Rainbow" while waving rainbow ribbons. The wedding party was made up of "best couples" and the guest list included gay rights activist Frank Kameny and D.C. Council members Vincent Gray, Jim Graham and David Catania. The reception kicked off with a rollicking performance from a drag queen dressed as Cher and incorporated a New Orleans-style bead toss and Second Line dance to reflect Roby's Lousiana roots. It ended with a spirited closer: The newlyweds and their guests departed the venue in a pedicab parade through Dupont Circle.

The honeymoon: The couple spent two weeks relaxing on the Greek islands Mykonos and Santorini.
