After missing the first half of the season, All-Met offensive lineman Jay Whitmire returned to practice this week and is expected to start Saturday afternoon when T.C. Williams hosts Annandale at home, Titans Coach Dennis Randolph said Friday.

T.C. Williams coaches have been cautious with Whitmire, a highly recruited prospect who sprained his ankle during the team's final scrimmage before the season. Originally expected to return two weeks ago, Whitmire was held out because the ankle - which had a precautionary hard cast removed over a month ago - was slow to heal and had lingering stiffness. More X-rays were performed recently to make sure there were no breaks in any bone, Randolph said.

The return will help the Titans, which have shuffled players on both lines to deal with injuries to Whitmire and others throughout the season.

"He's 6-7, 300 pounds," Randolph said. "He certainly will get back in there and help us out on defense and offense."
