Northern Virginia Family Service needs volunteers to interpret for clients in their Program for Survivors of Torture and Severe Trauma during case management, psychiatric and legal appointments. Volunteers must be fluent in English and at least one of the following languages: French, Amharic, Tigrinya (Ethiopian), Arabic or Farsi. The Town of Vienna needs volunteers to help remove invasive plants at Northside Park, at the end of Glyndon St. on the north side of Maple Ave., 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 23 and to plant native species in the park 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 30. The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia needs tutors to help adults learn to speak, read and write English. A tutor is trained, matched with a student and encouraged to meet with the student weekly for 90 minutes. No teaching or foreign language skills are required.
