Northern Virginia Family Service needs volunteers to interpret for clients in their Program for Survivors of Torture and Severe Trauma during case management, psychiatric and legal appointments. Volunteers must be fluent in English and at least one of the following languages: French, Amharic, Tigrinya (Ethiopian), Arabic or Farsi. Haven of Northern Virginia is offering bereavement training to become a Haven volunteer. Training sessions will held 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday, Oct. 25 to Nov. 5. The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia needs tutors to help adults learn to speak, read and write English. A tutor is trained, matched with a student and encouraged to meet with the student weekly for 90 minutes. No teaching or foreign language skills are required.
