With five returning starters, the George Mason men's basketball team has been picked to finish second behind defending champion Old Dominion in the Colonial Athletic Association.

In a poll of coaches, media members and sports information directors, Virginia Commonwealth was selected third, followed by James Madison and Hofstra in the 12-team league.

Patriots senior guard Cam Long was named to the preseason first-team squad and junior forward Ryan Pearson received honorable mention honors. Other returning regulars include junior forward Mike Morrison, junior guard Andre Cornelius, sophomore guard-forward Luke Hancock and senior guard Isaiah Tate.

Joining Long on the first team were Hofstra senior Charles Jenkins, the preseason player of the year after averaging 20.6 points last season; Northeastern guard Chaisson Allen; James Madison senior Denzel Bowles; and VCU guard Joey Rodriguez.

George Mason (17-15 in 2009-10) opens the season Nov. 13 against Harvard at Patriot Center.

In the women's preseason poll, George Mason was picked No. 10. Reigning champion James Madison was the top choice, followed by Old Dominion, Delaware, Hofstra and VCU. Patriots senior Brittany Poindexter was named preseason honorable mention.
