Going Out Guide: Howard University homecoming, Yardfest, DJ Chris Washington
Tuesday, October 26, 2010
Howard University's homecoming is about more than a football game. Would a mere college sporting event be immortalized in rhymes by Biggie and Ludacris, play host to live performances by Kanye West or P. Diddy and have thousands of non-alumni pouring into town to hit packed nightclub parties? This is a multiday celebration of music, fashion and tradition. The university hosts a full slate of events, which you can find on http:/

Grits and Gravy
One of the highlights of homecoming is Grits and Gravy, which has the warm vibe of a house party (the hosts promise "no drama, no stress") and a soundtrack of '80s hip-hop and house that pulls multiple generations of alumni onto the dance floor. Arrive before 8 p.m. for food and drink specials.
Thursday, 6 p.m.-2 a.m. Jin Lounge, 2017 14th St. NW. Free admission.
