WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama is telling Democratic supporters not to get discouraged by the election results.

Speaking to supporters, donors and volunteers by conference call Wednesday, Obama said now is when folks who are knocked down get back up. He urged everyone to work harder to deliver change for the American people and said they must keep the spirit of hope and change alive.

Obama and Democrats suffered a blow Tuesday when Republicans won back control of the House and increased their ranks in the Senate.
