Snowplow crews do practice run

After two recent snowstorms closed the federal government and schools across the region, people began digging out. The season's snow tally in D.C. reached 55.6 inches Wednesday -- more than the last record of 54.4 inches, set in 1898-99.

Metro and Montgomery County officials have rolled out their snowplows as a test for winter. Friday is the District's turn.

Crews from the Transportation and Public Works departments will meet at RFK Stadium before deploying across the city in a dry run. Officials said 250 pieces of equipment will be used as the city simulates a snow emergency.

The snow will start to fly at 9 a.m. Actually, it will be light rain, if anything, but don't be surprised when you see the plows.
