Bonny Doon Le Cigare Volant 2006

***
California, $34

This wine, modeled after Chateauneuf-du-Pape, helped launch the Rhone Rangers movement in California when it debuted in the 1980s. Its earthy gaminess gives it the stuffing to match the sweet spiciness of turkey with mole or smoked turkey.

Country Vintner in the District and Virginia; Bacchus in Maryland: Available in the District at Potomac Wine & Spirits. Available in Maryland at Corridor Wine & Spirits in Laurel; Grand Cru, Spirits of Mt. Vernon, the Wine Market and the Wine Source in Baltimore; Port of Call Liquors in Solomons; on the list at Lewnes' Steakhouse in Annapolis, Capital Grille in Baltimore. Available in Virginia at Clifton Wine Shop & Tasting Room.

Chateau Ste. Michelle Eroica Riesling 2008

***
Columbia Valley, Wash., $24

Year in, year out, the Eroica from Chateau Ste. Michelle ranks near the top of U.S. Rieslings. The ever-so-slight amount of residual sugar will help it pair with the raucous complex of flavors on a Thanksgiving table.

Republic National: Available in the District at Ace Beverage, Bell Wine & Spirits, Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits, Rodman's; on the list at Acadiana.

Alma Negra Sparkling Chardonnay 2009

** 1/2
Mendoza, Argentina, $20
(Great Value)

This bright bubbly is a nice expression of chardonnay with low dosage (added sugar), making it quite dry and refreshing: ideal as a toast, as a palate cleanser or with light appetizers.

Winebow: Available in the District at Calvert Woodley, Cleveland Park Wine and Spirits, MacArthur Beverages, Paul's of Chevy Chase.

Arizona Stronghold Tazi 2008

** 1/2
Cochise County, Ariz. $23
(Great Value)

This full-bodied blend of sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, Riesling and malvasia bianca will appeal to fans of Conundrum, as well as fans of the rock band Tool (the winery is co-owned by lead singer Maynard James Keenan).

Siema: Available in the District at Cleveland Park Wine and Spirits, Modern Liquors; on the list at Oya and Poste Moderne Brasserie. Available in Maryland at Cork & Fork in Bethesda. Available in Virginia at Arrowine in Arlington, Whole Foods Market locations in Arlington and Alexandria; on the list at Sushi Rock in Arlington, Grandale Farm Restaurant in Purcellville.
