Man charged with killing co-worker

A Hyattsville man was arrested Saturday and charged with shooting a fellow employee at their workplace in the District and dumping his body in a cardboard box 50 miles north of the city.

The suspect, Marvin Palencia, 34, a maintenance supervisor at a building in the 100 block of Constitution Avenue NW, shot and killed coworker Jacobo Vazquez, 36, at the building Nov. 12, police said. They said the slaying stemmed from a dispute involving a woman.

A Maryland highway cleanup crew on a post-weekend patrol for deer carcasses found Vazquez's body Tuesday, police said. Police said it was stuffed in a large bloodstained box on an embankment below the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 in Frederick County.

Vazquez, of the 1100 block of Massachusetts Avenue NW, worked in building maintenance with Palencia, who became the focus of a police search after the body was discovered. Police said he was arrested "without incident" in Hyattsville about 3:30 p.m. Saturday and charged with first-degree murder.
