Linda S. 'Lindy' Johnson, NOAA lawyer

Linda S. "Lindy" Johnson, 49, who had been a lawyer since the early 1990s at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Office of General Counsel for International Law, died Oct. 23 at her home in Alexandria. She had colon cancer.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Johnson was an associate at the law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen and Hamilton in New York. During the late 1980s, she was a clerk for U.S. District Judge Judith Keep in the Southern District of California.
Linda Sue Johnson was born in Howell, Mich. She received a bachelor's degree in international policy and political theory from Michigan State University in Lansing in 1984 and a master's degree in sea law from the London School of Economics in 1985. She received her law degree from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1988.
NOAA recently renamed its attorney of the year award in her honor.
She baked pies for the D.C. Central Kitchen and volunteered for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.
Survivors include her husband of one year, David P. Beddoe of Alexandria; two stepdaughters, Sarah Beddoe and Anne "Annie" Beddoe, both of Falls Church; her parents, Richard and Teresa "Tootie" Johnson of Howell; two sisters, Denise Johnson of Arlington County and Katrina Kreyenhagen of Huson, Mont.; and a brother, Robert Johnson of Pensacola, Fla.
