AARP tax assistance program: Volunteers are needed to file electronically 2010 federal and state income tax forms. A five-day training using IRS computers and software will be provided. Volunteers become IRS-certified tax counselors after completing the training and passing an IRS examination. www.aarp.org/taxaide.

American Red Cross: Volunteers are needed to greet donors at blood drives and offer them reading materials and refreshments. One-hour training sessions are offered. 800-272-0094, Ext. 1, karlofft@usa.redcross.org.

Balls Bluff Battlefield: Guides are needed to lead visitors around the historic site. The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority will train volunteers. 703-779-9372, templehallfarm@nvrpa.org.

Claude Moore Recreation Center Teen Night Program: Volunteers are needed to help with check-in and check-out, organizing and helping with activities and chaperoning from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Fridays during the school year. Staff members will help supervise the program. Call Sharon at 571-258-3600.

CrisisLink: A suicide and crisis hotline; volunteers must be at least 21, complete 60 hours of training and work three hours a week. Volunteers are also needed to update a database. 703-527-6016, www.crisislink.org.

Dulles International Airport: Volunteers greet and help travelers at the information desk for one weekly shift of three to four hours. Experience in airline operations and customer service and knowledge of foreign languages are helpful but not required. 703-572-7350, volunteer@mwaa.com.
