Use a qualified mediator

This Story

There is no national organization that credentials elder mediators, and state requirements differ; some communities offer mediation services for free. Before hiring an elder mediator, experts say, it's important to check a mediator's training and his or her experience handling elder-care cases. Here are some places to find mediators or to learn about the process:

l Mediate.com: www.mediate.com

l The Center for Social Gerontology: www.tcsg.org/med.htm

l National Association for Community Mediation: www.nafcm.org

l National Eldercare Mediator Network: www.eldercaremediators.com

l Association for Conflict Resolution: www.acrnet.org
