The week's travel bargains from around the globe


Mexico's Ixtapan Spa Hotel and Golf Resort is offering a Warm Up & Wind Down promotion for stays through Feb. 26. For a four-night package, the cost is $665 per person double; the usual rate is $770. For a seven-night Spa Classic package, the rate is $999 per person double, down from $1,175. Taxes are 17 percent extra. Packages include all meals, 12 or 18 spa treatments (depending on package length), fitness and yoga classes, guided walks, golf and tennis lessons, and Internet access. Amtrak has discounted select routes by 20 percent for travel through April 14. For example, ride from Washington's Union Station to Orlando for $162 round trip, including taxes (usual fare is $202). Deal applies to all long-distance trains. Discounted destinations available from Washington also include Chicago, Atlanta and Pittsburgh. Three-day advance purchase required. Hurtigruten is offering discounts of $350 per person on its 12-day Classic Voyage, which sails round trip from Bergen, Norway. Cruises now start at $1,701 per person double, including taxes, on select departures in March, the peak viewing window for the aurora borealis (the northern lights). Costa has discounted the April 13 departure of a four-night cruise sailing round trip from Venice. An inside cabin now starts at $299 per person double plus taxes or $645 per couple, including taxes; brochure rate was $1,009 per person, plus taxes. SAS has sale fares from Washington Dulles to cities throughout Europe, including Oslo, Stockholm, Paris and Amsterdam. Depart Jan. 22 through May 13. Fly nonstop to Copenhagen, for example, for $658 round trip, including $70 taxes. Fare on other airlines starts at $721. Some dates are sold out. Air Tahiti Nui has package deals to French Polynesia. A five-night vacation now starts at $1,709 per person double, including about $110 taxes. The package comes with round-trip air from Los Angeles to Papeete, one night at the InterContinental Tahiti Resort, four nights at the InterContinental Moorea Resort & Spa, breakfasts, round-trip ferry to Moorea and transfers.
