Dole out of hospital

Former senator Bob Dole has been discharged from D.C.'s Walter Reed Army Medical Center after being treated for a minor infection, according to a statement released Thursday.

"I appreciate the great care I've received from the outstanding men and women at Walter Reed. I feel a whole lot better," Dole said in a statement. He continued, "I'm excited to get back to work tomorrow and to be joining my new colleague at Alston & Bird, Earl Pomeroy. It's going to be a different Congress and different players on each side of the aisle." (Pomeroy, a Democrat who served nine terms as North Dakota's at-large congressman, lost his 2010 reelection bid.)

Dole, 87, spent 10 months at Walter Reed last year after suffering complications from knee surgery.

Lennon collector sued

The gallery that auctioned John Lennon's "Abbey Road" suit for $46,000 is being sued, the Associated Press reports.

A Manhattan state court determined that Biond Fury, the psychic and collector who co-owns Braswell Galleries, owes more than $21,000 in rent to a former landlord. Mark Arrow, who filed the lawsuit Tuesday, said the auction's profits should have resolved the situation, but Fury still has not met the overdue rent payments.

Young Miss America

Teresa Scanlan, a 17-year-old from Nebraska, was crowned Miss America Saturday night in Las Vegas. She is the youngest winner in the pageant's 90-year history. Before winning the title, Scanlan had plans to attend Patrick Henry College in Purcellville.

Scanlan succeeds Caressa Cameron, 2010's winner from Virginia. This year's Miss Virginia, Caitlin Uze, performed Irish step dancing in the talent portion of the contest, making it all the way to the top 10. Scanlan played "Whitewater Chopsticks" on the piano.

For her talent segment, the first runner-up, Miss Arkansas Alyse Eady, performed a daring and skillful ventriloquist act that included yodeling.
