When planting amaryllis bulbs, choose a pot that is large enough to allow root growth and to bury the bulb to its shoulders. The pot should drain. Give the soil mix a good soaking after planting, then water sparingly until growth begins. Keep the pot in a bright location and turn it to keep the emerging stem straight. Flowers will appear in six to eight weeks after initial growth.
