Get your hands on 25 cents' worth of history
Start digging around in your (or your parents') pockets for a brand new quarter.
The United States Mint, whose job it is to create coins, this week is issuing a quarter that honors Gettysburg National Military Park, site of a famous battle of the Civil War.
You may remember that the mint created the 50 State Quarters Program, and lots of kids collected those coins over a 10-year period. The Gettysburg coin is part of the "America the Beautiful" collection of coins that honors 56 national parks. That program began last year and will continue through 2022.
The Gettysburg coin shows the 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry Monument, which is located on the battle line of the Union Army at Cemetery Ridge.
Oops: Yesterday, KidsPost reported that we had two entrants in the annual News Quiz who got only one answer wrong. Turns out, Sidharth Muralidhar, 11, of Great Falls also had only one answer wrong. We apologize to Sidharth for mis-grading his entry, and he'll get a prize of books, games and a KidsPost T-shirt as well. And thanks again to everyone who entered.
