A man was shot to death in the parking lot of a Prince George's County meeting hall early Saturday, the 16th homicide of the year for the county.
The victim's name and age were not immediately released. No suspects were in custody, police said.
The shooting happened about 3:30 a.m. outside the Plaza 23 Event Center on St. Barnabas Road in Temple Hills, Prince George's Cpl. Evan Baxter said. A concert by the popular go-go group the TCB Band had just ended, and a crowd of people was in the complex's parking lot, which is just south of Branch Avenue near the Marlow Heights Shopping Center.
Baxter said he did not know how or why an altercation broke out, but he said investigators think 50 to 100 people were present when the man was shot in the upper body. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police were appealing for witnesses to the shooting to contact them, and Baxter stressed that callers to 1-866-411-TIPS will remain anonymous.
"The number of witnesses who were there," Baxter said, "leads us to believe they'll be more cooperative if they know they can remain anonymous."
