Faster Forward: Preview of iPad 2 rumored for this week, may ship in March
Rumors say the iPad 2 may appear as early as this week and ship starting in March.
The second would be a turn-up for the books, since conventional wisdom has put the iPad 2 launch in April, a year after Apple announced its "magic" predecessor.
The rumors seem to stem from the Japanese blog Macotakara, which has previously leaked details about iPad cases, speculating that the production schedules at Foxconn point to a March release.
Stronger rumors indicate that the iPad2 will be announced this month, as Apple normally makes its announcements in January and June, but may not have wanted to steal thunder from the Verizon iPhone.
Apple is planning an iOS event this week, and the blog Apple Insider, via information from the German blog MacNotes, said that the iPad 2 might make its first appearance there.
MacNotes keeps to the idea of an early April release.
Another iPad 2 release date rumor is also making the rounds today, though mostly thanks to its unlikely source.
CNET UK's reporting that Sir Elton John is being credited for a "leak" about the iPad 2 release, placing the likely release date in April.
