Want to be one of the Nationals' racing presidents?

Tuesday, February 8, 2011; 6:50 PM

Applications are due Friday for those interested in becoming one of the Washington Nationals' racing presidents: Abe, George, Tom or Teddy, right. The mascots are starting their sixth year of entertaining home crowds with a race on the field during the fourth inning.

To qualify, applicants must be between 5-foot-7 and 6-foot-6, be able to run from center field to home plate in 40 seconds, feel comfortable wearing a 45-pound costume for several hours and be available for at least 35 home games from March through September.

Fans can apply for this part-time seasonal position by submitting a cover letter, resume and photo of themselves to entertainment@nationals.com . Selected candidates will be called to answer mascot-related questions and invited to audition at Nationals Park on Feb. 19. The tryouts will consist of a freestyle dance, 40-yard dash and two in-costume races. For more information, visit www.nationals.com/racingpresidents .
