Beer Madness 2011: Calling all tasters
Tuesday, February 8, 2011; 6:57 PM
It's almost March, which means it's almost time for Beer Madness, the Food section's annual bracketed taste-off of brews.
Last year, we shook up the contest by broadening it to international beers, in honor of the Olympics. This year, we're shaking it up even more by limiting it to craft beers, all domestic. We've enlisted the help of ChurchKey beer director Greg Engert, who will help us select the matchup, and we're planning to add some experts to the tasting panel.
But we could never give up one of our favorite elements of the contest: the involvement of readers. We hope to ramp that up in many ways this time around, but first and foremost, we are hereby opening up the application process for members of the public who want to be among our tasters.
Here's what you do: Send an e-mail to email@example.com with the phrase BEER MADNESS in the subject line, and include two things:
-A description of your qualifications and a demonstration of your passion for beer, in one tightly constructed sentence. (Remember, we have to read hundreds of these, so yours needs to stand out at a glance.) Humor is always appreciated.
-A list of your five favorite domestic craft beers.
Those selected will need to be available for up to three nights of tastings late this month.
