Three people were killed and three others wounded Thursday night at two locations in Manassas, and police officials say they think that one person was responsible.
Sgt. Tim Neumann, a Manassas police spokesman, said the violence was not thought to be random or to involve gangs.
"It is related, but we're not sure what the relationship is," Neumann said.
About 7:20 p.m., police were called to a house in the 9200 block of Hood Street, in the Georgetown South neighborhood, Neumann said. Two people died there, but no details were released.
About 20 minutes later, police were called to the 9600 block of Brent Street, a couple of blocks away. One person died there, apparently of a gunshot wound. Another person was wounded by a knife or machete, Neumann said, and was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
The conditions of the other two injured people were not immediately clear.
Manassas police issued an alert, and Prince William County police stopped a vehicle and took a male "person of interest" into custody, Neumann said. No charges had been filed late Thursday.
