Like Justin Bieber, no big win for Grammycast

Despite a show that was chockablock with such historic moments as . . .
l Mick Jagger's first-ever Grammy Awards onstage performance;
l The rare TV coming-out-of-mothballs for Barbra Streisand and what's left of Bob Dylan;
l Eminem's first trophy-show appearance since selling out to Chrysler;
l The unveiling of Lady Gaga's new prosthetic shoulders;
l Cee-Lo Green and Gwyneth Paltrow's duet "[Expletive] You" while dressed as the iconic NBC logo and in clown shoes, respectively, in meta-protest of Comcast's decision to kill the NBC peacock;
. . . Sunday's Grammy telecast attracted only about 790,000 more viewers than last year's show.
CBS did note, however, that Sunday's trophy show clocked its biggest audience since 2000 - about 26.66 million people. Last year's show logged 25.87 million viewers.
In comparison, the 2009 Grammycast averaged 19 million viewers. So last year's Grammy show had attracted about 7 million more viewers than the '09 show. And the '09 show copped about 2 million more viewers than the '08 show.
Now those are ratings hikes!
Once again, CBS put on a Grammy show that gave us much to think about: Will Lady Gaga's shoulder prosthetics catch on? Why did Jagger keep shoving the guy with the guitar away from him - does he have space issues? What happened to all the love the Recording Academy was going to show this year to Eminem? I mean, Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs" - album of the year? Really?
If "Glee" was hoping to capitalize on Justin Bieber's big Grammy wins with its Bieber-centric episode two nights later . . . well, that didn't work out so well. The Biebs went 0 for 2 on Sunday night, losing best new artist to Esperanza Spalding, while Lady Gaga snagged the trophy for best pop vocal album.
