Dogs at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

Wednesday, February 16, 2011; C10

Where can you find nearly 2,600 dogs - and a lot more doggy poop bags - in one building this week?

The answer would be New York City's Madison Square Garden, where the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is being held. All this fuss over a dog show? Well, this is not just any dog show: This is the Super Bowl of dog shows. Every dog who competes has the abbreviation "Ch." before his or her name. It stands for champion: Every Westminster contestant has already won another dog show.

This is the 135th year for the Westminster show, making it the second-longest continuously held sporting event in the United States. What's first, you ask? The Kentucky Derby, the horse race that is often called the most exciting two minutes in sports.

But the real reason for all the fuss (and for two nights of national television coverage) is because dogs, with all their variety - long hair and short; floppy ears and pointy; long, whippy tails and short, cropped ones - are just so much fun to look at.

So here are our completely unscientific choices for if not best in show, then cutest in show.
