NHL trade deadline: Capitals may look at these centers

Thursday, February 17, 2011; 12:14 AM

The Capitals have played without a true second-line center most of the season. If they look to make a deal before the NHL's Feb. 28 trading deadline, here are some players General Manager George McPhee might consider:

Stephen Weiss (Florida): 27 years old, 37 points in 54 games, salary is $3.1 million/season through 2012-13, then he'd be an unrestricted free agent.

Jason Arnott (New Jersey): 36 years old, 24 points in 56 games, salary is $4.5M/season through 2010-11, then he'd be an unrestricted free agent.

Tim Connolly (Buffalo): 29 years old, 25 points in 41 games, salary is $4.5M/season through 2010-11, then he'd be an unrestricted free agent.

Antoine Vermette (Columbus): 28 years old, 31 points in 56 games, salary is $3.75M/season through 2014-15, then he'd be an unrestricted free agent.

Derick Brassard (Columbus): 23 years old, 39 points in 56 games, salary is $3.2M/season through 2013-14, then he'd be a restricted free agent.

Brad Richards (Dallas): 30 years old, 63 points in 56 games, salary is $7.8M/season through 2010-11, then he'd be an unrestricted free agent.
