Date Lab: They braved a winter storm. Was it worth it?
8 p.m., Arlington Rooftop Bar and Grill, Courthouse
Christina: I'd made a hair appointment for 6 o'clock in Arlington. My hairdresser called me at 5:15 and said the roads were pretty bad. [But] I come from Syracuse, and I have four-wheel drive, so I figured I'd be fine. I left my house [in Annandale] at 5:25. Traffic was not moving. At about 7:30, I called the restaurant and I said, "I don't think I'm going to make it by 8."
Nick: I was kind of worried with the weather. But I drove, and I had no problem. When I got to the restaurant, they said Christina called and said she was going to be late. So I sat there, had a Coke and played with my phone. Then she called again and said she wasn't going anywhere. I completely understood. It wasn't her fault.
Christina: It was probably the worst snow I've ever driven in. I was thinking, This is an omen that I'm not supposed to meet him. But my motto in life is, It's either a good time or a good story, so I decided not to cancel. When I called, [the manager] was like, "Do you want to talk to him?" [Nick] got on and basically guided me all the way through the back roads to get there. He was really sweet about it.
Nick: She was starving, so she said, "Get me a steak, medium." So that's what I ordered. She got there at about 9.
Christina: I was totally frazzled and frustrated. And my hair was a mess.
Nick: She's very, very attractive. She has blond hair, blue eyes, is very in shape. I've done the blind date thing before and was like, "Eh, whatever." This was the opposite.
Christina: He was clean-cut and a nice face. And he's got the height thing going on. He's not the kind of guy that I would see and go want to make out with him right away, [but] he was definitely a handsome guy.
Nick: We sat down, and within five minutes they brought out our dinner. And some guy at the bar ordered us some shooters. She's very outgoing, very gregarious, so [the conversation] was really easy.
Christina: I was less frazzled then, [but] I am in general a very goofy and uncoordinated person. I hit the end of a fork, and it flew off the table. And I tripped over my words a few times. He was very patient with me.
Nick: She's a music teacher, and I'm in a band, so we talked about all the instruments that I've played. She was talking about one Broadway show, and she said, "the more offensive the better," so that was one thing we had in common. I'm not offended by pretty much anything.
Christina: I think we'd find the same things funny. We talked about karaoke. He was saying his favorite song to do was, like, Britney Spears's "Hit Me Baby One More Time," which just cracks me up. I don't know if I got a flirty vibe. [But] I think we had a lot of chemistry in our conversation. [And] he's definitely a quality person. I usually take a little while to warm up to people.
Nick: [It was], like, 11:30, and we were the last ones in the bar, so we realized we probably should leave.
Christina: He only was driving two-wheel drive, so I gave him my number, and I said, "If you get stuck, call me," because even I was sliding. I gave him a hug goodbye.
Nick: [I'd rate the date] a 4 [out of 5]. [She's] very intelligent, very easy to get along, very outgoing and confident, which I think is attractive.
Christina: I would [rate the date] a 4. I liked that he was so patient and very polite. I think if he asked me out, I would go out with him again.

Update: Christina and Nick both got home safely. She was headed out of town for a week, but Nick said he'd "probably" give her a call the following week.
