Telework: Does it have a big future?

jsesq: Some jobs require that people be on-site all the time. When I worked in IT support, there was no possible way I could telecommute. Other jobs can be done anywhere.

Driverdale: I have a fear that a lot of interoffice knowledge transfers will be a thing of the past. E-mail and the new communication packages where you can speak and share documents as they are being modified [are] making face-to-face meetings obsolete.

jlm656: People of a certain vintage, myself included, have a strong tendency to look askance at telework arrangements; an earlier poster characterized it as "fraud."

Although that's probably a little strong, it reflects the attitude of those of us who did not grow up digital. Not so our children.
